Artisan to Your Doorstep

Chaav is a name that reflects love & affection . Over the years artisans in the desert Land of Rajasthan have been creating amazing masterpieces of art and craft. This Pandemic brought the businesses to a complete halt. For craftspeople, dependent on daily production and sales, life came to a halt — there were no Melas (fairs), no sales, no raw material, no money to feed the families. Artisans from the textile, craft ,traditional arts & jewellery sector were facing distressing prospect.The very nature of the craft sector which is largely home based, in thousands of small pockets spread across crowded as well as remote areas, with problems and needs of a multiple nature were not being noted at all. We have worked with them for decades, now we share their pain. In one of my talks with my master craftsmen, he said, “ “All we want is the means to stand on our feet again, we will rebuild our own lives ourselves.” This confidence, this self respect shook us from the inner core and fuelled our zeal to do something.

Ours is a humble collaboration with these skilled communities , an attempt to strengthen individual artisans, engaged in production, by generating awareness among artisans about the value of their skill, learning from them and working continuously with them to upgrade their skills and product offerings. The techniques we involve are eco friendly and with Zero or minimum carbon footprints. Our dyes are Azo free Nature & Environment friendly. Our designs are inspired from the age old culture of this land and its humble folk, intertwined with new age creativity. At Core to this all is a Commitment; a commitment of passionately working towards preservation of these skilful artisan communities. As one of our senior textile craftsmen says , “ We are artists and the artist shapes the tomorrow with his/her art, dissipating negative energy because after a thick dark night there is always a golden morning.”
